Dead or Alive You Spin Round - Quads and Cores from West Coast Midnight Run

The real music for most of us starts when we have open multiple applications (MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel), and are searching for data via web portals and the system crashes.

This kind of repeat event prompts most of us to either upgrade the RAM or get our piece of hardware replaced with a new one.

When most laptops are limited on their RAM capacity, the flexibility of your system is more like a mirage.

And the reason your system stalls in the first place?

More and more web portals are using heavy media graphics in their webpages, not just streaming videos on a page, but advertisements (sidebar panels) that constantly stream video content.

Others are using XML rather than HTML so they can transmit data back

and forth using exotic graphic interface rather than data forms or data tables.

Some internet portals are broadcasting entire television “webisodes” on the web, from a webpage loaded with view screens of different episodes and guaranteed to stall your system.

It’s not just one or two “concept” portals for the sake of demonstration. It’s ongoing and pervasive with each next generation of web technology and application, shortening the “effective” lifespan of a perfectly new and powerful laptop or desktop.

So why would a business professional feel there is a need for manufacturers to supply a quad core laptop with an OS that is usable for most, if not all business applications?

Perhaps because some companies are already testing eight core machines. Yep, that’s eight cores. Will it be called the Octacores or the D Quad

cores (dual quad)?

Perhaps because after so many new laptops that end up in the dump, after a quasi one night stand, I need a machine that I can grow accustomed to and fond of.

It’s not like I am married to my laptop and take it to bed with me every night, it’s just I would like to be able to hold on to a new piece of technology and learn what makes it tick before it’s all out of time.
