Some industry analysts ponder the reason Kodak invented digital photography yet was slow in developing the technology for commercial use while competitors that lagged behind made a few passes and put the champ in the rearview mirror.
AGFA consumer film and cameras business division, a former competitor to Kodak, already bit the dust and the surviving division has transformed itself into a digital solutions group.
The Wall Street Journal’s Richard Karlgaard has already done the the post mortem analysis even while the patient is struggling for its life.
Karlgaard, in his segment “Kodak Didn’t Kill Rochester, It was the Other Way Around” warns would be analysts from attempting to picture the situation of a company that was sleeping at the wheel and never caught on to digital.
