Lykke Li is a new rising star from Europe, her latest from West Coast Midnight Run

Being a new arrival on the European and International music scene, Lykke Li is from Sweden, preceded by other fellow musicians such as ABBA and Ace of Base.

With only two albums to her credit she has already climbed the charts with five singles in the UK, the United States and all over Europe, breaking the top 20 on two hits, Little Bit from her 2008 Youth Novels album and I Follow Rivers, from her 2011 Wounded Rhymes album.

Her breakout track may as well be I Follow Rivers (we recomment the Magician Remix), as this song climbed to the number one spot in both Belgium and Germany and broke the top 20 charts in the UK, France, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands.

Her album, Wounded Rhymes, clipped the 36th and 37th positions in the US and UK respectively and made the best album list of 2011 for The Observer, The New York Times and Rolling Stone magazine.

Lykke Li’s youth was shaped in an artistic environment, her mother is a professional photographer and her father a musician in Dag Vag, a Swedish reggae, pop and punk band with local notoriety.

Lykke spent most of her youth moving from one location to another, including Portugal, Mo

rocco, Nepal and India. When she was 19, she spent three months in Brooklyn, New York and returned at 21 to record her first album.

Lykke’s music has already been labeled as bridging the pop rock, folk rock, indie and electronica genres.

Although her vocal range has been noted to be soprano caliber, for some audiophiles her timber strikes some similarities with Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac fame.

Her track, Get Some, combined with the artistic tilt of the video, brings together the 60s Berkeley culture in a Congo-esque 1930s Hollywood setting replete with Nepalese and Indian overtones that outstrips Madonna’s best videos in its humor and stylish execution.

Both Lykke and the video director, Johan Söderberg, pull off the cinematic performance with deadpans and attitude from our novice musician and starlet that speaks volumes about her potential as a top notch entertainer - albeit a modern day female Ricky Ricardo at the Copacabana.

Lykke has been signed up as of 2012 as the official Levi’s jeans Curve ID Collection and some of us will be waiting impatiently for her third album release.
